If it is simply a park where dogs are allowed (as opposed to a childrens play area where they may be banned) then i think a 'lead on' approach is still sensible in the first instance, unless you are in an open space away from others.

Yes, you may know that your dog is submissive and well behaved but other dog owners or people with children do not. The reaction you got from the guy (who was obviously an ill bred tool) in the park was because he did not trust his dog, not yours. No matter what the breed, dogs can react aggressively to other dogs; my border terrier has a 'bark first, make friends later' approach which can sometimes upset other owners (and yes, i have tried everything but she is a rescue dog with issues!). What does annoy me though is when we are walking on a 'lead on' path in the countryside and some other dog comes bounding up which causes all hell to break loose.

If your 'dog walking park' is actually an area where dogs can be exercised off their leads at free will then the bloke is even more of an idiot as he should surely expect dogs running everywhere. If his dog is not suited to that kind of think than he should find somewhere else!

Excellent blog by the way, cheers JTJimmynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-158278656076727778.post-65451899207388934822011-08-16T10:57:38.860-07:002011-08-16T10:57:38.860-07:00It was a dog walking park and he is a very well be...It was a dog walking park and he is a very well behaved dog, I'd never keep him on a lead in that situationAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18109801813980120376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-158278656076727778.post-8197612689725303832011-08-16T10:42:58.452-07:002011-08-16T10:42:58.452-07:00Maybe next time keep your dog on a lead?Maybe next time keep your dog on a lead?Jimmynoreply@blogger.com
